How to Be Efficient

My roommate recently asked me how I am so efficient.  See, she has had a hard time getting all of her school work done in time.  So I am going to tell you what I told her.

How to Be the Best Student You Can Be

Oftentimes, students have a hard time their first semester of college because they were not taught good enough study habits when they were in high school.  I have compiled a list of things that I like to do to help me excel in my class.  Some of these are simple but often overlooked.

All About Phone Interviews

Some companies conduct phone interviews to help decide who they want to invite to an in person interview.  In these cases, the phone interview is the first step to landing that job so it is important to do well!  Here are some simple tips on how to excel in a phone interview.

Reading For Fun

When was the last time you read a book for fun?  I read several books every semester but they are all for school.  I hardly ever read a book that I want to read or that I think will be enjoyable.  I think this definitely needs to change, though.  Here are my top two reasons for why you (and I) should read a book for fun.

Essentials for College in Los Angeles

Are you looking to go to college in Los Angeles?  There are some simple essentials that you need first!

1.  If the dorm you are living in does not have air conditioning (mine did not freshman year) then you will definitely need a fan.  You might want to think about getting something small that does not take up a lot of space.  My dorm room freshman year was tiny and so a small fan really worked out well.

Transitioning to College: How to Make it Easier

The transition from high school to college can be tough, especially if you decide to dorm.  Here are some things you can do to make it a little easier.

1.  Make your room cozy.  I like to do this by putting up my favorite posters (Les Miserables, Wicked, Daughtry, and several Harry Potter posters).  Fill up that blank wall!

Make the Most of Your Internship

These tips will help you to make the most of your internship!

1. It is important to take notes and ask questions.  I find it is most helpful to bring a notebook with you to your internship.  This is where you can write about what you have done at your internship which can come in handy later on when you are updating your resume or asking for a letter of recommendation.

Rules of Being A Good Roommate

Having a bad roommate can really make the school year a lot harder for you.  Trust me, I have had experience with this.  Here are some simple tips to getting along with your roommate.

1. Respect him or her.  This means respect their space, their clothes, their food, etc.  Treat them as you would want them to treat you.

2. Learn about him or her.  Find out what they like, what they don’t like, what their favorite shows are, etc.  Find out what makes them tick.  You might find something you have in common!

Resumes 101

You might be perfect for a job but if you do not have a great resume then you might not be invited to interview.  Here are a few simple but effective tips on how to make a great resume.

1.  Make sure your Objective section is specific to the job you are applying for (such as “Seeking an X job at Y Company so that I can utilize my Z skills”).   It should never be a general Objective.  A recruiter once told me that if it is a resume that you can use for more than one job, throw it out.  It has to be specific to the job and to the company.

Educate Yourself About Electives

Colleges require their students to take a certain number of courses in their major, a certain number of general education courses, and a certain number of electives.  An elective is, in the simplest terms, any class that is not required.
